Introduction to Solids class

Two hour group class for parents on weaning your 6 month old babies onto solid foods. Taught by a specialist Dietitian.

$150 per parent or $180 for both parents

 

The Introduction to solids class is structured for five to six month old babies. Taught by an experienced Dietitian, it is an essential course that should be taken before weaning your child onto solid food. Introducing solids can be a challenge. This class gives you the confidence to have a smooth transition for your baby.

 

INSTRUCTOR

Vanessa McNamara – Clinical Dietitian

BSc, Masters in Nutrition & Dietetics, Singapore Nutrition & Dietetics Association, Accredited Practising Dietitian, member of Dietitians Australia (RD, APD, MsC)


Vanessa has 21 years of experience having worked in Australia, the UK, India; and in Singapore for the past 10 years. In her private practice, The Travelling Dietitian, Vanessa works predominantly with infants, toddlers and children. She has a special interest in fussy eaters, helping those with sensory and other feeding problems to improve their relationship with food. She is trained in Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Therapy and the SOS Approach to Feeding.  She also advises and supports children and their families with food allergies and collaborates with allergists in both inpatient and outpatient oral food challenges and peanut immunotherapy programs. 

Vanessa is on the Executive Committee of the Asthma and Allergy Association (AAA) of Singapore and is the Chairperson of the Private Practice Interest Group of the Singapore Nutrition and Dietetics Association (SNDA). 

She has two young children who help her to understand the challenges involved with feeding children and who are gradually starting to love their food as much as she does!

Course Content:

This is fantastic course if you are feeling a little anxious about all things solid foods or you just want some evidenced based, practical steps to introducing foods to your baby. We explore ‘when’ your baby will be ready, ‘what’ signs they will be showing, ‘which’ foods are best to start with & why, and ‘how’ to start.

We delve into the difference between ‘Baby led ‘and ‘Traditional weaning’, with some examples of how to do both, so you can pick which is right for you and your baby.

We will take a look at allergies, how they are defined, what symptoms to look for and what to do if you are worried your baby may have a food allergy.

The course has been designed, to help you on your parenting journey, to make this milestone as seamless and enjoyable as possible. With all the practical advice and knowledge, as well as the questions and general chat from other parents in the group, you will leave feeling very ready, to get that food started!
